Minister Visit

Thanks to Domnick Walsh for taking these 2 fabulous photos above which appeared in the national papers.

It was an honour to welcome Minister for Education Norma Foley - TD to our school on 20th December 2021. Norma commended the children and the staff on their resiliance throughout these difficult Covid times and the closures. She said she wished she could begin every Monday morning with such a welcome. 6th class sang two Cranberry songs, before which Ms Foley took the time to walk amongst the entire school, making eye contact and conversation easily where she went. She spoke with such fluency and with heartfelt thanks to all. The place looked lovely decorated with balloons in our school colours to mark the occasion.

Thanks for visiting us Norma Foley.

Our World

Ms Debbie Moriarty’s 6th class watched the David Attenborough documentary ‘A Life On Our Planet’ and discussed Cop 26. They then researched projects based on ‘Our World’ and presented them to the class in December 2021. The standard of work was terrific. Well done to all.

Biodiversity

Ms Ryan's 3rd class are our new Greenschool Committee. Please go to Initiatives and then to Greenschools at the top of this website to read all about what we have done so far.

Flag Raising

We raised our 5th Greenschool Travel flag on 12th November 2021. Thanks to 2nd class who worked two years on this flag and to Flynn and Alex who helped Ms Brassil and Paudie to raise it while the school were all assembled outside after the fire drill practice.

Science Week November 2021

Thanks so much to Ms Olivia O'Shea for co-ordinating Science Week in our school. This year classes have already begun planning their experiments to do in the hall. Some classes are doing experiments in their classrooms too. Keep an eye here for updates of photos from classes for Science Week.

Thanks to Catherine Daly who spoke to Juniors, 2nd, 4th and 5th about native species to Ireland. She will speak with all other classes next Wednesday. We learned about the characteristics of mammals and got to touch the different mammals. We learned that some animals are prey and others are predators while a few can be both prey and predators. We really enjoyed it as it was so interactive as we got to go around and touch the various stuffed animals. Thanks also to Olivia O’Shea for organising this for us as part of Science Week.

3rd Class Lava Lamps

2nd Class

Here is a mixture of photos from 2nd class of making slime, floating and sinking experiments and animals with Catherine Daly.

Here are more photos of 2nd class doing their own science demonstrations.

5th Class

6th Class

4th Class

Ms O’Shea’s 4th class looked at their reaction time as part of a science experiment. They attached a piece of play dough to a paperclip and a reaction strip which measured how fast they reacted. Their partner then dropped the strip of paper and they tried to catch it as fast as they could.
